Carbon Footprint Reduction

  • Reduced carbon footprint by providing guests with bicycles for excursions.

Conservation

  • Preservation of local flora, celebrated by an educational Eco-Tour experience available for all Malliouhana guests.

Energy Conservation

  • Solar  water heaters used in guest rooms.
  • Swap out traditional lights with energy-saving (LED) lighting.
  • Use of Energy-Star rated equipment.

Green Purchasing

  • Source food locally to support farmers and fish vendors.
  • Rooms restocked with reusable coffee mugs and glasses and cutlery.
  • Furnishing guest rooms with natural fiber sheets and furniture made of sustainable materials.
  • Replaced plastic water bottles for recyclable water cartons all around the property.
  • Use of recycled single use take out containers and boutique shopping bags.
  • Purchase biodegradable, non-toxic products where possible.

Housekeeping

  • Use of refillable eco-friendly cleaning products.
  • Significantly cut down usage of plastic bags and changed to reusable bags for dirty and clean linen.

Infrastructure

  • Guest bathrooms fitted with sufficient towel racks and hooks in bathrooms to encourage towel reuse.

Waste Reduction

  • Eliminated printing of employee manuals, job advertisements, and other employee-related documents by switching to electronic/digital format.

Water Wise

  • Use of grey water for irrigation
  • Guest bed linen changed every three (3) days to conserve water unless requested otherwise.
  • Planting of several drought-resistant plants
  • Limited to no watering of plants following heavy rains
  • Installment of water refill stations for different work areas to encourage staff members to utilize reusable water bottles.

Smart Technology

  • Guest keys switched to eco-friendly reusable wooden keys from plastic key cards.
  • Smart energy conserving technology of motion sensitive air conditioners and those that automatically turn off when the doors are left open.

Community Projects

Local Government Collaborations

  • Donated reusable linen bags to hospital and local nursing homes.
  • Adopted Valley Primary School (VPS)- Donated takeaway boxes for children’s school lunches.
  • Held Career Fair to enlighten high school students to discover the world of hospitality offerings.
  • Annual job training for students soon leaving high school to acquire work experience in different departments of the resort.
  • Book donations to Her Majesty’s Prison as a contribution to the inmate’s rehabilitation program.
  • Helped renovating bathrooms for The People Market by tiling new floor and installing new water-efficient technology for all toilets, which use 1 – 1.5 gallons per flush as opposed to the traditional water consuming 3 – 5 gallons per flush.

Community & Private Sector Collaborations

  • Donated to Anguilla Enhancement Project (AEP), a local non-profit organization that focuses on enhancing the sustainability of communities in Anguilla.
  • Annual sponsor for boat racing (Anguilla’s National Sport)
  • Health fair for team members
  • Beach and Community clean ups
  • Linen donations to local nursing homes.
